The main directions of research:

  • control theory and computer control systems, methods of biomedical signals analysis and vision systems, software engineering, real-time systems, informatic systems for management;

  • designing digital and analog integrated systems ASIC "full custom", FPGA, optoelectronic systems, digital signal processing, SOI detectors, analyses of micro- and nanostructures for microelectronics, optoelectronics, spintronics and gas sensors;

  • modelling, evaluation of efficiency, quality and reliability of telecommunications networks, planning and analysis of wireless communications networks, investigations on new-generation networks, in that ASON and access networks;

  • distributed network systems related with GRID infrastructure, multimedia services, multiprocessor systems, parallel algorithms; computer linguistics, agent systems;

  • intelligent control of buildings, quality and efficiency of use of electrical energy, automation of electric drive, power electronics, electrothermy, electrical traction;

  • measuring, identification and diagnostics of electrical machines;

  • designing and analysis of electrical power networks and systems, analysis of insulation of HV systems;

  • analysis of chaotic systems, analysis of dynamics of non-linear systems, use of non-linear dynamics methods for signal processing;

  • mathematical modelling, simulations, designing and construction of measuring systems.

Scientific research conducted at the Faculty is associated with the newest Information Technology. The scope of the research is very broad and complex, covering the entire group of subjects. The high rank and international appreciation of the Faculty are confirmed by numerous participations in EU projects, research grants - both individual and ordered ones. The Faculty is entitled to confer the doctor habilitatus degree in five disciplines: Computer Science, Automatics and Robotics, Electronics, Telecommunications and Electrical Engineering. In 2006 the Faculty was also granted the right to confer the PhD degree in Biomedical Engineering. The IT research has been carried out for years, and now the Faculty is engaged in numerous projects connected with the development of the information society. This refers not only to computer science research, but also to telecommunications (working out of communication protocols for new-generation networks), electronics (designing specialized sensors, systems), or automatics (construing mathematical models, control and optimization). Apart from the priority direction, i.e. information society, there are also other research works and projects conducted; they focus on the industrial implementation of modern IT solutions. The Faculty is a place where highly specialized research teams work and where consortia can be formed for the purpose of large projects' realization. In the nearest future this will be one of the basic forms of research. Now the Faculty realizes many projects within the 7th Framework Program, and participates in security projects as a coordinator. This subject has been also developed as a large European project. The high scientific rank of the Faculty can be also viewed through such perspective projects as the one connected with the State document Information Strategy of Poland in the years 2007-2013.
